The primary goal is to define a template for the synthesis of online activities within the traditional face-to-face design studio. The project will explore the following questions:

• How can the inclusion of online writing, discussion, and critique enhance the traditional the design studio?
• How can student1s written and oral communication skills be improved with the inclusion of online activities?
• How can a virtual community of designers and design critics best be integrated in the graphic design studio?
• How are writing and design assignments altered to take advantage of the synthesis of online and onsite activity?

Students will maintain online journals which will include detailed progress sketches and personal commentary on their process development. These journals will serve as a dynamic means of documentation for later reflection and evaluation, and as a forum for public feedback. All course writing assignments and design work will be publicly accessible via a Graphic Design Department portal.
